I've decided to kill some more comments on the blog - namely from the Royal Mail are poo and the BlogTree post - of all things!?
Basically, I've become a little paranoid after reading about the Mumsnet case...
Sorry if you liked coming back to see how the posts were progressing - the RM post had basically become a forum and wasn't even comments about on my original post anymore!
I may (we've all heard that before) summarise the useful points that were made in the BlogTree post comments - as lots of them - albeit repeated because people didn't read all the comments before saying... use the TPS... so basically it's a lot of that over and over again...
Should I have closed and removed the comments?
From the link -
"When websites like Mumsnet allow users to post comments and do not check those comments before they appear on the site, the UK's Defamation Act and E-commerce Regulations protect the operator of the site: if defamatory comment is posted by a user, the operator escapes liability provided that, in the event of a complaint, the operator removes or blocks access to the comment "expeditiously"."
That seems to put you in the clear as you don't moderate your comments.
However, the hassle of dealing with a jumped-up lawyer demanding damages is probably not worth it.
