Right... I need a hobby. Something that's not geeky and people will hopefully be interested to hear about... so I'm don't sound like a sad bastard all the time.
Ideas please?
No seriously...
I've had a few ideas... only rule is:
For I'm a wuss. Anything else is fine...
u could try learning to play an instrument...or herion, i hear thats super fun
Posted by: darth munchie on March 5, 2004 3:53 AMwhat's herion, is it an instrument? (I hope you're not talking about illegal drugs and can't spell).
Saying that I have less ideas. How about photosoc - that appears to have restarted? I quite fancy juggling too.
Posted by: sarah on March 5, 2004 8:40 AMI reckon that heroin will hurt. Woo, another reader though :)
PS Instrument... good idea :) I'll short list it.
Posted by: Ed on March 5, 2004 12:01 PMCouldn't you skip the instrument and get some synthasiser software? (i know i can't spell)
I might have missed the point
hmmmm, hobbies for Ed.....
Become a scout leader, give something back to the youth of today.
How about hill walking? Wine tasting? Wine making? bonzai (sp?) trees? hmmmm, fishing?

I find drinking is quite a good hobby, and I am getting quite good at it too, takes lots of practice though.
Carpet fitting thats fun too.
Oh and theres always spending other peoples money to pass the time with.
Posted by: James on March 6, 2004 12:48 AMBut I didn't know that Adam was into Bonzai trees or fishing?
Posted by: TraB on March 9, 2004 9:48 PMTo fit in with the instrument / sampling thing, how about leaning how to use Reason and then teaching be cos i can't be arsed to faf around with it and need to learn it for work...

Posted by: Brenda Bentley on May 29, 2006 6:52 PMi need a hobby too
i guess my email adress is evidence of it (i'm not that huge a fan of anime any more)
the whole instrument thing sounds like a good idea...playing guitar does hurt though. The strings cut into your fingers if u don't practice [i certainly don't].
if ur looking for a sport, biking is fun, as long as you don't live in a city with moronic drivers (minneapolis isn't biker-friendly).
or tennis. i end up just trying to hit the ball as hard as i can, and that kind of ruins it.
Posted by: Atom1kYak on August 1, 2006 5:52 AMI NEED A hobby soooooo bad!!!!
I have been bored for two years almost. I lost the main hobby in my life Asheron's Call. Now I am hobby less. I need something that isn't to messy (So I don't have to clean up to much after myself) I want it to be fun and entertaining. Nothing boring or common. I have searched the net for every hobby I can find and I hate all of them. I want it to be addicting where i wont get tired of it after only a little while. I want it to be non electronic (or at least where it doesn't need a computer to be used) and if you come up with anything please email me at b22691@yahoo.com or contact Annia on the message board Colors' Canvas http://colorscanvas.proboards85.com/
please and thank you! ^_^

Posted by: Justin on February 26, 2007 2:39 AMSeems we all have the same problem here .. haha and the sad part is, we are all posting about how bored we are on a THREE year old message board .. haha
Posted by: damn monkeys on March 5, 2007 5:41 AMthe hobby thing has been going through my mind for a few years too, ever since my friends all settled down.
For a few months I got into setting up my own tv pvr using the computer. The problem is its now working great, so I don't need to play with it any more.
How about all bored hobbyless people meet up once a month or so for a few drinks (and a few more after that) - that would be a good hobby :-)

Bleh. I need a hobby. My hobby has been computer games for about 6 years but its getting very, very loathsome. I can't stand watching a screen right infront of me, or bothering to play games... I need something off the computer, preferably not too sociably involved (I'm a loner).
I've tried modelling, programming, computer modelling, RC, art, and now I've run out of ideas.
By the way, the ideas in the last paragraph were all failures.
plz gimme an e-mail at

sorry for the complexity, it's my "spam" account
Posted by: The Wolf on April 7, 2007 8:01 PMLearn to make homemade soap. It useful, you get to play with dangerous chemicals, and people can't believe you made it yourself. Search for cold process soap recipes and get started.
Don't forget to wear goggles... and gloves... and an apron... and open the windows... What fun!

I only really have video games to do, but I'm only allowed two hours on them a day. (My parents don't want me sitting in front of a TV for 10 hours straight. xD)
And in that two hours, I usually just play my Wii, and then am bored for the rest of the day. :[
I REALLY REALLY wanted to get an airsoft gun (the ones with those really small plastic BB's) but my mom thinks I'll shoot my eye out with them. >_<
Oh, and here is a pretty cool website with tons of hobby-ish stuff. :P
It has some kewl airsoft guns.
Posted by: SuperNova on August 7, 2007 8:02 PMmy hobby is collecting bees in a jar. they die, but nevermind its just a hobby.
Posted by: steve on August 19, 2007 2:36 PMMy hobby was collecting beer cans after drinking the contents in front of the TV and recycling the empties.
Now I've got stabbing pains on my right side, just below my rib cage and my doctor says my liver is complaining.
I've got to stop or it won't get better. I've suddenly got a whole load of time on my hands.
What about campng! and things like canoeing and winsurfing
also cooking!?!?! why not take a cooking class? also the ladies luv it when ya can cook ;)
I need a hobby that my friends will be intrested in doing and that i will do perhaps every weekend?
I like cooking, writing and drama, what else could i take up? Ideas Please!!
I don't know why I want another hobby(Modeling, Biking and computer-fixing are mine) but i feel something empty. I need another hobby!!!!!

Also, I find myself wanting to learn harmonica and take up warhammer...
Posted by: GeoS on November 13, 2007 11:05 PMyo how about cooking wouldn't it be good hobby?
women love a man who can cook....
Well to tell a truth Im not sure about woman part but seriously how about cooking?
Seriously....guitar rocks. You sound a bit nerdy, but this will change your life i swear. Learn how to play the easiest classic songs that everyone knows.
Sit round with your mates...and girls. Casually pick up the guitar and start playing. If you can get them to sing along then you will be king among kings and the panties will drop.
When this happens you will have 2 hobby's.....guitar and.....well
Posted by: Andy on February 1, 2008 3:56 PMTRY MAGIC TRICKS. AND ECOME GOOD AT POOL AND DARTS SO U LOOK COOL AT A PARTY
HAHAHAHA
JUST A FEW IDEAS NOBODY HAS PUT ACROSS YET
Posted by: JEN on February 4, 2008 12:31 PMOk all u ppl.......ur not sad and ur not boring you have just run out of imagination.
So I have a PROPOSAL maybe... Simply some ideas to spark ur day...ok i'll get to the point. u could do ur bit in changing the world making it a better place by following ur heart and not being afraid of what might happen.
What have u got to lose. Start by smiling at strangers or leave handmade gifts on doorsteps or send artistic drawings to completely random addresses on the other side of the world.
Secretly do little things that can help people. Go hang out at a place that you would never hang before 2 c if u may meet sum1 just like u......
Start to write your own life story or a secret diary that could be found oneday and made famouse.
Make a new friend of a person you have never thought twice of and discover their true personality let them inspire you.
Or if you have nothing left to live for make a fresh start in a new town or even country..... Find someplace you would never have thought of like a peaceful village that no one knows about... You don't have to let your new friends know the old you...Create a new you!
Start Sewing! Take a beginners sewing class and then be on your way making your clothes, or changing your clothes to have new styles!
Posted by: Mel on March 4, 2008 8:16 PMWow, there are a lot of people who's only hobby is saying they can't think of anything to do with there time. That's really sad! Ya'll definitely need something, and need it soon. Ok... if you want a really good hobby that isn't very expensive, very fun, addicting, and impressive, you should definitely learn to juggle! Learn to juggle juggling balls, bounce balls, (juggle by bouncing the balls off the floor or off a wall) clubs, rings, devilsticks, diablos, torches, knives, fire balls, [yeah, it's possible. but they cost about 30$ per ball.] or a plethora of other props. If this isn't enough of a challenge you should learn to do it on a unicycle or rola bola. You could also practice throwing knifes and throwing stars. I would recommend checking out toddsmith.com and dube.com.
If after reading this you still don't have a hobby, I think it's because you just don't want to try... you would rather just sit around complaining. if you want a hobby, try what I say. Hope it helps.
Hmmmm i find making things on photoshop intresting depends if your creative and have the patience to learn tho.... you could make real nice graphics or animations or even make your own website... or get a dog and train it to do stuff like turn the light off for you when you go to bed :P or my personel favourite become a full time alcoholic you decide :-D
Posted by: Gareth on May 14, 2008 8:36 PMYou can a have a look on Hobbything.com for examples of all kinds of hobbies. Get suggestions and ask for advice.

Posted by: Dmitri on September 5, 2008 12:16 PMGreat idea for discussion. Thanks to everyone for the ideas, even the humorous/ridiculous ones. I am in the same sitch at the moment. I think we need a hobbie to protect ourselves from being bored and depressed. There is nothing wrong with this in fact it is of benefit to yourself and usually your community eg volunteer rural firefighter, helping the homeless. If we are all enjoying life etc health expenses should drop and our general productivity will probably rise. So do it for your country!
