Me laptop's broken... :(

Arrived at work this morning and tried to turn on my laptop... and it wouldn't work... nothing. Bastard thing. No lights saying it's plugged in or anything... I've tried two different power supplies and everything - I've come to the conclusion that it's broken... I thought I'd phone Sony to ask them if they had any cunning ideas as to what was wrong with it...

Hehehe... well first of they had me take out the battery and have it unplugged... then I held the power button for 30 seconds. This sort of seems fair enough - apparantly the reason for doing this (this is where I become less trusting) is that it removes a build up of static from within the laptop.

It didn't work... and so it now has to be sent off back to Sony so they can take it apart and remove the static from within... no really, that's what the guy told me! I'm sort of imagining them with one of those cotton buddie things sweeping it's internals of all it's static electricity content. So... he thinks it's static, I think it's shagged. What do you think?

I've spent a large part of the day trying to work out how the hell I can open it to take the harddrive out so at least I can try and backup the data on it, 'cause you never know... it might not come back with any data on it :-(

Grrrrr....

Try hitting the reset button on the bottom.

Works on mine. Just haven't figured out why yet...

On my sony there's 2 screws that hold the hard disk bay in the side of the machine. just above the battery compartment.

Which model is it?

I'm in the "it's shagged" camp too. Static electricity... my arse.

Every laptop I've ever seen has the HD easily removeable - normally you remove a few screws and slide it out in a caddy.

Verizon is about the only place you can get the authentic RIM product and matching door. Most other sites are out of stock and even when they are in stock they have the black battery door which looks like crap. http://www.batteryfast.co.uk
I tested this camera for a client. I didn’t have the light running for more than 15 minutes. The battery lasted approximately 6 hours before recharging. The LCD, however, had a few dead pixels - never saw this before. Tried returning for exchange and had to put up quite a fight. Anyone else seen this? http://www.batteryfast.com
