It is waaay too easy to get an overdraft increase. Conversation went as follows:-
Ed: Hello, I want to increase my overdraft.
Bank: How much by?
Ed: I reckon another 500 quid should do it for the time being.
Bank: Do you have your bank and student card?
[hands over cards]
Bank: Are you a final year student.
Ed: No.
Bank: OK, fill in your name and address on this form.
Ed: OK
Bank: Your interest overdraft limit has been increased, with effect from now.
Ed: Thanks.
That was it! Humm... getting yourself in debt is waaay too easy.
At the Halifax bank I didn't even have to do the forms...that just said...you can have £1250 is that ok? I restricted myself to £500 but they said i could increase it later if I'd like. lol:)
Posted by: Sarah on March 23, 2003 8:39 PMI had a stupid experience... I needed extra for two weeks to cover rent before I got paid. Barclays made me work out all my outgoings, and we discovered that I earn more than I usually spend. Great, right?
No. They didn't want to give me an overdraft because I earn more than I spend. We had to tweak it so I spend three times more on going out that I actually do, then there was no problem at all.
So... you can only get an overdraft increase if you're unable to pay it off afterwards. Thanks, Barclays.
